Sixi Museum is delighted to announce an all-female artists group exhibition Siren Song from 19 March to 19 June 2024.
In celebration of the first anniversary of the establishment of Sixi Museum, selected works by female artists that span generations, geographies, and cultures of different appearances from the museum collection will be presented. In addition, emerging young female artists are invited to create new works for the exhibition.
As a trending issue in contemporary society and culture, female subjects have been repeatedly discussed and promoted in recent years. Yet in contemporary art industry, underneath the bustle of market is the fact that women are still inevitably put into a separate system of judgement due to their gender identity and are assigned a stereotypical "feminine colour". Siren Song aims to tell the story of each female artist in an honest and sincere way by removing gender labels and breaking down the perspective of the "other", reverting back to the true nature and independence of artistic creation.
The works featured in this exhibition not only reflect on human brutality and lament over history, but also respond to the era of social media with its explosion of visual information. Freed from the constraints of the patriarchal gaze, the participating artists neither deliberately avoid the unique life experience of women, nor intentionally show off their "femininity", seeking to reflect on broad social phenomena with an inclusive vision.
In this coming spring, we look forward to listening to Siren Song and exploring women's voices with you in Sixi Museum.
