Kyoto Tsutaya Gallery will hold a solo exhibition "Leiko Ikemura: Ai no Ayumi" of internationally acclaimed contemporary artist, Leiko Ikemura, from 11 to 28 November 2023. She will present comprehensive artistic installation works, in which human life on earth, the forms of living creatures and prayers and hopes for the universe are entrusted.

Leiko Ikemura was born in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture. She moved to Spain in the 1970s, began her artistic activities in Switzerland and Germany in the 1980s and is currently based in Berlin, Germany. She is an internationally acclaimed contemporary artist who has held major exhibitions around the world with a wide range of expression, including painting, sculpture, drawing, photography and poetry.

This exhibition will consist of new installations of her latest works, focusing on her poetry, paintings and video works that are derived from her paintings. The theme of the exhibition is the strength of the imagery and performance that emerge from language. Videos displayed in this exhibition were created from her paintings made during the Covid pandemic two years ago. The images depict human life on earth, the forms of living creatures and prayers and hopes for the universe. By combining the paintings with performance elements and poetry by the artist herself, a comprehensive artistic installation work is created.

The title of the exhibition "Ai no Ayumi" is the title of a poem on display at the venue. Leiko Ikemura expresses her desire to cherish emotions in today's chaotic world. Ikemura believes that both good and bad things are based on the energy of love.

The artist will be present on the first day of the exhibition.
