How much is transformable in ourselves, in our own human condition intertwined with the nature of which we are part, along with the restitution of femininity as a plastic and argumental value, define the work that Leiko Ikemura has been doing in recent years. They are hybrid forms, as the artist herself points out, in which the use of materials close to the earth -ceramics, bronzes, pigments- reinforce the representation of beings equated in their vital condition. Human figures transmuted into trees, personified vegetable organs and animals crossed by herbal attributes speak to us of a world in which the frontier between the different species must be reconsidered.

Leiko Ikemura composes for the Centro de Arte Caja de Burgos CAB a call of attention on an increasingly suffocating society through a calm work, transcript of the artist's personality, but in which it falls on the viewer the mission to bring mystery to the narrative and turn it into something fantastic or, on the contrary, keep it in the realm of reality.

Leiko Ikemura (Tsu, Mie, Japan), who has lived in Europe since 1972, is considered one of the most relevant artists in the art of our time. Not in vain her exhibitions in the most outstanding museums and art centers have been taking place since the eighties. To mention just a few of her most influential and recent exhibitions, we can mention those held in 2006 at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin and in 2019 at The National Art Center in Tokyo and the Kunstmuseum in Basel, Switzerland. She was also recognized in 2008 with the August Macke Prize of Hochsauerlandkreis and in 2001 by the German critics association. It is her first exhibition in Spain in an art center.
