This show commemorating the 15th anniversary of Vanji Sculpture Garden Museum presents works mainly from the collection that focus on trees, a subject that has continued to attract human interest to this day. It can be said that the “tree of life” and “tree of wisdom” motifs began with the Old Testament, though they are both prevalent in different cultures throughout various ages. In photographer Manabu Miyazaki’s studies of a single persimmon tree standing isolated in a village in Ina Valley, Nagano Prefecture that he shot over a two-year period, you can see the change in seasons and movement of time. Glean a sense of “life” and the shape of modern living through the works of 15 different artists presented here.
