Bijutsu Shuppansha (Shinagawa, Tokyo) is pleased to announce the publication of “Ikari to Hikari,” a book by Berlin-based artist Leiko Ikemura. Using motifs of girls, cats and rabbits, natural landscapes, and hybrid creatures fused with nature, Ikemura has been questioning what is the root of human beings in her expression of life and death, loneliness, mother and the contrast between the West and the East. The texts, mainly poems she has written over the years, have been completed as an artist's book.

Bibliography Summary
Ikemura moved alone to Spain in the 1970s and has continued her creative activities through the turbulent times based in Europe. Her ambition continues to burn even today. While her activities as a painter and sculptor are highly acclaimed internationally, she has also been active in a variety of media, including photography and video. One of them is writing. In recent years, she has been writing a series of short poems for the magazine “Gendaishi Techo” (published by Shichosha), and she has been writing many poems since she was in her twenties.

This book is a compilation of about 130 poems, free haiku, and short essays that she has written over the years. The texts, which have appeared several decades later, have been substantially revised by Ikemura herself for publication, and the text reveals the Ikemura of the past as well as her thoughts on life today.

In addition, 54 works and exhibition scenes are also included. This is an artist's book that you can take in your hand again and again to slowly and deeply understand Ikemura's world.

4月5日（土）より刊行記念展覧会「いかりとひかり」を銀座 蔦屋書店 中央展示スペース GINZA ATRIUMにて開催

美術出版社（東京都品川区）は、ベルリン在住の芸術家イケムラレイコの書籍『いかりとひかり』を刊行します。少女、ネコやウサギ、自然の風景、自然と融合したハイブリッドな生き物をモチーフに、生死や孤独、母なるもの、西洋と東洋の対比などを表現するなかで、人間の根源とは何かを問い続けてきたイケムラ。彼女が長年書き溜めてきたポエムを中心としたテキストが1冊のアーティストブックとして完成しました。

書誌概要
1970年代に単身スペインに渡り、ヨーロッパを拠点に激動する時代を駆け抜け、創作活動を続けてきたイケムラ。その意欲はいまもなお燃え続けています。ペインター、彫刻家としての活動が国際的に高く評価されている一方で写真、映像などさまざまなメディアを駆使して表現活動を行ってきました。そのうちの一つが文筆です。近年には雑誌「現代詩手帖」（思潮社刊）で短期連載をもつなど、ポエムの創作にも強くこだわっており、20代の頃から多くの詩作を試みてきました。

本書では、これまでに書き溜めてきた長短約130篇のポエムや自由俳句、ショートエッセイを1冊に編纂しています。数十年の時を経て現れたテキストは、刊行にあたり本人の手によって大幅改稿され、文面からはかつてのイケムラの姿が浮かび上がるとともに、今を生きる想いもずっしりと伝わってきます。

そのほか、54点の作品や展示風景などのビジュアルも掲載。繰り返し手にとってこそイケムラの世界をじわじわと深く理解していける、そんなアーティストブックとなっています。

東京都現代美術館「MOTコレクション」で イケムラレイコの特別展示が3月30日（日）まで開催中。
会期終盤の3月29日（土）には、同美術館地下2階講堂にてイケムラと、2005年に同美術館「MOTアニュアル」でイケムラ作品を展示した笠原美智子によるトークイベントが実施されます。トーク終了後、会場内にて本書の販売とイケムラのサイン会も予定されています。
