Haus des Papiers presents the fascinating results of its residency program Paper Residency ! 2024 in the exhibition TRANSFORMATION PAPIER.
This 8th exhibition by the private museum brings together works by residency participants Karolin Schwab, Katja Strunz, João Freitas and Conrad, alongside creations by previous residency artists, pieces from the permanent collection, and three Wild Cards. A new highlight is the innovative format of the Sonderschau (Special Showcase), which will spotlight special thematic exhibitions in its own dedicated museum section from now on.
For the first time, residency participants had access to a selection of Hahnemühle papers and Schmincke products to fuel their experimental exploration of paper as a medium. The creative approaches were as varied as the artists themselves:
The Berlin's residencies Karolin Schwab, Katja Strunz and Joāo Freitas used the possibility of the print experience and linked their prints with manually processed paint. At the Munich Residency, Conrad engaged physically with water, paper, color, and body weight, creating unique textures and forms.
The results testify to deep engagement: tearing embossing, cutting and folding. These extraordinary outcomes can be viewed at Haus des Papiers until June 8, 2025.
Since 2018, the Paper Residency ! material and studio stipend has been sponsored by d’mage, Hahnemühle, Canon Germany, and Schmincke. It offers artists the opportunity to engage intensively with paper as a medium in Berlin, Munich, and now also Lehnin.
Some of the works created during these residencies are incorporated into the museum’s collection.
In the inaugural Sonderschau, Haus des Papiers presents a selection of experimental objects previously featured in the citywide exhibition concept Paper Future Lab by Haus des Papiers. These works unite fresh impulses from art, science, research, and production, aiming to make the abstract concept of sustainability both visible and tangible.
The exhibition can be seen from December 13, 2024 to June 8, 2025, every Friday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Haus des Papiers. Tickets cost 8.50 euros, reduced 6 euros.
