Opening: Saturday, January 27, 5-8 p.m.
Tomas Kratky enjoyed early success as a figurative painter in the 1980s. His work was exhibited at the Kunsthalle Bern, the Kunstmuseum Bern and the Kunsthaus Zug. He died of cancer in 1988 at the age of just 27.
The heavy themes of his initially dark paintings became lighter in later works. In clear colors, he created blurred metaphors of human life in the face of its finiteness.
His estate was handed over to the ART-Nachlassstiftung für Kunstschaffende Bern (The ART Estate Foundation for Artists Bern) in 2023.
The exhibition aims to examine Tomas Kratky's work in the context of his time and highlight its significance for the present day.
