Beings – from the Museum Collection

Girl in Yellow, 1995, watercolor on paper, 48 x 36 cm © Leiko Ikemura and VG Bild-Kunst Bonn, 2021.

The human figure has been one of the central painterly subjects since time immemorial. This is reflected in the Nordic Watercolour Museum’s collection, where many artists have allowed their motif to emerge from the human body and its fascinating form. Portraits may seem to be mere depictions, but they can also reveal things that are entirely different from the superficially obvious and visible. Art takes the viewer along on exciting journeys deep into the human mind, where feelings, impressions, memories and experiences are stored and processed and continue to shape our lives.
