An exhibition celebrating the publication of a new book of dialogues by Leiko Ikemura and Chiharu Shiota will be held from April 2 (Sat) to April 13 (Wed), 2022. In conjunction with the exhibition, we will be accepting entries for a special edition of the dialogue book with an edition print on a special page.
Overview
Berlin, Germany-based international contemporary artists Leiko Ikemura and Chiharu Shiota held a two-person exhibition in Nagoya in 2021, where their collaborative drawings were also exhibited and attracted much attention. During the lockdown period when their mobility was restricted, the two artists visited each other's homes and engaged in a series of dialogues about the exhibition and production of artworks.
In this exhibition, Ikemura and Shiota will show for the first time their respective works, drawings created together, and new collaborative works from their two-person exhibition "Holding the Universe in the Hand" (Kenji Taki Gallery, Nagoya, Japan) in 2021. In addition, a limited edition print of a photograph of Ikemura's own hand holding a stone, with red thread sewn over it by Shiota, will be available as a set with a dialogue book, and online entries will be accepted from April 1 (Fri.) at 10:00 a.m.

About the Special Edition
Dialogue Book In conjunction with the exhibition, a limited number of special edition dialogue books with edition print works will be available for sale.There will be two editions of 30 prints each, each with its own edition number and signed by the artist.

Summary of the dialogue book
Leiko Ikemura and Chiharu Shiota's two-person exhibition The Universe in Your Hands was held at Kenji Taki Gallery in Nagoya in the spring of 2021. The exhibition included collaborative drawings, a first attempt for both artists.
The two artists have been in a state of lockdown and have been regularly visiting each other's homes and studios in Berlin, Germany, where they are based, to engage in dialogue. This book contains the "Dialogue Collection," a compilation of those five dialogues, as well as the works exhibited in the two-person exhibition The Universe in Your Hands.
In the dialogues, the artists exchange opinions and chat with each other while looking at each other's works, and frankly discuss in a very relaxed atmosphere what they think about their work at the Corona Disaster, life as a female artist, the art scene after the fall of the Berlin Wall, putting art into words, family, art education in Japan and Germany, the thoughts of those who teach art and those who are taught, the future art market, and so on.
