Perspektivwechsel. Kunst nach 1945 aus den Sammlungen der Kunsthallen Lübeck und Rostock

In the double exhibition "Perspektivwechsel", the Kunsthalle St. Annen in Lübeck and the Kunsthalle Rostock take a joint look at the development of their collections from the time of the divided Germany to the present. The two Hanseatic cities have been developed and shaped by ideas and attitudes of different social systems, while the geographical proximity of the two cities—not least with Lübeck as a former border city—arouses interest in taking a closer look at the two museums. Paintings, graphic works, sculptures, and installations from the holdings of both museums are brought together and placed in an exciting dialogue. In this way it is possible to open up new perspectives on one's own collection and, at the same time, gain an insight into the holdings of the partner museum: recognizing, comparing, looking at the familiar from a different angle, discovering the new. What do the works tell us about art and its perception in East and West Germany before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall? Finally, the comparison of different collection philosophies stimulates social discourses with regard to current issues.

The double exhibition can be seen simultaneously at the Kunsthalle Rostock and the Kunsthalle St. Annen. Both exhibitions have set different emphases. A visit to both exhibitions in Lübeck and Rostock is therefore an absolute must!

Accompanying the double exhibition, a joint scholarly and richly illustrated catalog (German/English) will be published by Wienand Verlag.
