To commemorate the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and Germany, My Art Museum will host an exhibition of the Ludwig Museum’s collection from March 24 to August 27, 2023. The Ludwig Museum is Cologne's first modern art museum and is home to a large collection of works by Picasso, Dalí, and Pop Art master Andy Warhol, among others. In particular, the museum's Picasso collection, the third largest in the world, and its world-class Pop Art collection are highly acclaimed by art lovers. This special exhibition is a close collaboration between the Ludwig Museum Cologne and the My Art Museum, whose collections cover the major artistic movements and master’s works of modern art from 20th century to the present day. This exhibition traces art movements and history that emerged from the upheavals of the 20th century, such as German Expressionism, Russian Avant-Garde, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, and Minimalism, and examines German art of the current century that has been influenced by them. The exhibition is unique not only for its presentation of the world-renowned collection, which includes works by 20th-century masters such as Picasso, Chagall, Kandinsky, Warhol, and Lichtenstein, but also for the opportunity to show Korean audiences how the Ludwig Museum came to own such a wide range of works and the role of citizens in preserving them during Germany's political repression, division, and reunification.
