"Sculptures du Musée cantonal des beaux-arts Lausanne"
Musée cantonal des beaux-arts Lausanne, Switzerland
24. 08. 1990 - 09. 11. 1990
The publication "Sculptures du Musée cantonal des beaux-arts Lausanne" has been published as a catalogue to accompany the museum's exhibition of the same name. With bronzes by Auguste de Niederhäusern-Rodo and Félix Vallotton through to sculptures by Leiko Ikemura and Klaudia Schifferle, it presents the collection of over 400 works in text and images in a selection of 79 sculptures and sculptures.
Apart from the 8 wooden works from the 15th and 16th centuries, the sculptures presented are mainly from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They include such famous casts as "Le Penseur" and "Le Baiser" by Rodin and the "Etude de danseuse" by Edgar Degas. The small bronzes by Constantin Meunier such as "La Douleur" or the terracotta statuette by Jules Desbois represent further stages in the development of sculpture.
The surprise is the "sculpto-pein-ture" from 1923/24 by Gustave Buchet as a geometric, colourful composition of forms in the style of de Stijl. In the "Présent" section, Marcel Broodthaers' "Tour de Babel", a paraphrase of the beauty of the advertising face, is accompanied by Magdalena Abakanowicz's "Portrait anonyme N° 6".
