From this fiscal year, the Oita Art Museum has decided to promote the "Machinaka Artful Road Project" which turns Oita City's drastically changing central area into a zone of art and culture and creates an ease of getting around in cooperation with the Oita Prefectural Art Museum.

As the first step, the Oita Art Museum as the main venue will hold an exhibition in collaboration with the Toshioka Collection donated to Oita Prefecture and the collection of the museum. In addition, works will be exhibited at the iichiko Cultural Center next to the Oita Prefectural Art Museum, Art Plaza and The Bridge.

Main Venue: Oita Art Museum

The Toshioka Collection consists of about 400 items collected by chemist Masao Toshioka, including primitive sculptures rooted in daily life from South America and Oceania and contemporary art. You can feel the artist's passion and excitement for creation in the simplicity of works.

The exhibition features the Toshioka Collection in combination with the collection of the Oita Art Museum. This unprecedented encounter will make the charm of both collections shine even brighter!

This collaboration, which aims at urban development through art, can also be likened to the Greek myth in which 50 heroes set out on the giant ship Argo in search of treasures.

大分市美術館では、今年度から、大分県立美術館と連携し、大きく変わる大分市の中心市街地を回遊性を持った芸術文化ゾーンとする「まちなかアートフルロードプロジェクト」を推進することとしました。

その第一弾として、市美術館をメイン会場に、大分県に寄贈された「利岡コレクション」と市美術館コレクションをコラボレーションさせた展覧会を開催します。また、県立美術館隣のiichiko総合文化センターや、アートプラザ、the　bridge（ザ　ブリッジ）でも作品を展示します。

メイン会場　大分市美術館

利岡コレクションは、化学者である利岡誠夫氏が収集した、生活に根ざした南米やオセアニアなどのプリミティブ（原始的）な造形物や現代美術品など約400点で構成されており、その作品群には素朴さの中に作者の沸き起こる創造への熱い想いを感じることができます。

展覧会では、その利岡コレクションと大分市美術館の収蔵作品を組み合わせて展示します。これまでにない出会いの中で、それぞれの魅力がより一層輝きを増すものと思います。

また、アートによるまちづくりをめざして取り組む今回の連携は、ギリシア神話で、50人の勇士が財宝を求めて巨船アルゴで旅立ったことになぞらえることもできます。
